The Magic of the Moment

It's been a long time since I posted on my blog - or wrote for that matter. But yesterday, something happened... Yesterday, my mother-in-law, Val, invited us to come watch some old family videos that she had converted from 8-track and VHS tapes. And it was magical! As I watched generations of the Harrisons growing up, playing around, gathering for Christmases, and just going about their daily lives, it occurred to me - it REALLY occurred to me - how absolutely nothing matters except for the current moment. How it slips away between your fingers because you think it's ordinary, but how in reality, it's the most magical thing it is. It's what we are here for! What made it even more surreal is that we were sitting in the same living room of the same house as we were watching our kids, Liam, Max and Chloe - and our nephew Cruz - play together in the same living room that was reflected to us on the TV screen. Except everyone was 30, 40, 50 years younger depending on the video we watched and except the fact that Val's famous Baby Wall with the pictures of all her kids and grand-kids seemed almost barren in comparison to now. It was almost like that moment from Back to the Future, when Marty's brother and sister start disappearing from the family photo. Anyway, I am pretty positive that this family video watching experience was the reason why I woke up with an unrelenting desire to write again. I remembered why I did it in the first place - to capture the moment. So that my kids, and grand-kids, and great-grand-kids could relive it all with me. With us.I also thought that this picture was the most fitting for the post. It is the church in London, England, Chris parents, Val and Maynard, got married in - and this is Chris and I, visiting it, in 2005.

Here's to be being truly alive, my friends!
