Picky-Kid Approved Smoothie Goodness
I have two extremely picky kids. Every meal is a battle - some days I win and bask in the rays of maternal glory, and some days I lose and retreat in guilty desperation. Sounds familiar? The most important thing in this grueling matter is to remember one thing - you might have lost one battle, but you are going to win the war. :). And I'll help you with that!
Let's start with this smoothie. If your kids are super picky and won't eat anything that is good for them, try this recipe. Approved by my super persnickety 6-year-old, who, after taking a sip of this, patted me patronizingly on my back and announced, "This is the best smoothie you've ever made, mom. Nobody makes smoothies as good as you!" Obviously, my heart melted.
Check it out! This smoothie is packed with probiotics and vitamins that are not only super-nutritious, but will also strengthen your kiddo's immune system for the oh- so-scary school (read - flu) season.
Ingredients
1 1/2 cup Strawberry Kefir (I used Greek Gods honey strawberry kefir, but any sweetened kefir will do)
1 tbsp. Chia Seeds (Chia seeds do wonders to your digestive and immune system)
2 peeled and chopped Kiwis (you can substitute for 1 medium peeled orange or 5 large strawberries)
2 Baby Carrots, chopped
1 1/2 tbsp. Almond Butter
1 1/2 Frozen Banana (we used to throw bananas out - can you believe it? Now I always freeze them to use in yummy smoothies in the future. If you have bananas that started turning brown, peel them, chop them into 2-inch slices, place them on a plate laid with wax paper (make sure their sides are not touching), place them in a freezer for at least 40 minutes and then put them in freezer bags or containers. Seal them up - and voila! You won't have to add ice if you use frozen bananas, and smoothies turn out deliciously creamy).
Preparation
Well, that's an easy one. :) Throw all the ingredients into a blender and turn this baby on!
Please try it out and let me know how it goes! Bon appetite!
Love,
LM
